Out on the green where the sun shines bright, We gather together, though it feels contrite. Clubs in our hands, we share a few laughs, Yet beneath the surface, it’s more like a pass. The first tee beckons, a nervous delight, Swinging for glory, but it’s more of a fight. With each ball that slices, a chuckle or groan, In this awkward alliance, we’re never alone. The chatter is light, but the truth’s left unsaid, We’re here for the game, not the bonds that we’ve bred. A nod and a smile, we keep it all cool, Yet deep down inside, we’re just playing the fool.
